    Nestting/lay Boxes...
Hi All, I usually use sphagnum moss in my breeders lay boxes, but have had some difficulty getting it locally this year for some reason. I tried a similar moss as recomended by a friend but having issues with mold with this moss so I will no longer use it for this reason. I normally keep all my animals on paper towels but during breeding usually switch it out for moss as they are no longer eating and it helps increase humidity in the box for the eggs. I guess I could leave them on the paper towels or maybe use aspen(as I usually check them daily). So what does everyone else use???

P.S. If you use moss what kind do you use?

I use sphagnum. You can usually find it at most garden supply stores or even hardware stores. I think I got a large bag of it last year at a Mayo Garden Center but also found it at Ace Hardware.

Nothing here - other than their unprinted newspaper as substrate.

I used sphagnum moss. I was on vacation and thought she would use it if she wanted to. Humidity is always low in AZ. so I wanted to give her anything that might help. Sure enough she laid in the nesting box before I got home.
