Re: Peruvian Boa Temperament
I really have never heard of peruvians taking longer than any other boa to tame down, I have never owned one as a baby. But I did have a 7ft peruvian female, who was a bit touchy but was very docile once she was out of her cage.
I have yet to find some good breeders, I've been looking too! Haha.
Re: Peruvian Boa Temperament
I have a pair of Iquitos that are about 4 years old now. They are JUST starting to calm down for me. There's always an exception, but from what I've heard from others who have/do own them...that is about right. I got the female I have back in 2008 and she was a striker right out of the bag...the male I got in 2009 and he actually bit me THROUGH the bag! lol.

Wow! Im so glad I ended up liking Surinames more in the end! Talk about advance snake keeping! Still, Iquitos are beautiful Boas!
Re: Peruvian Boa Temperament
I think some peruvians can be fine. Just like many other species it depends on the individual. I have a peruvian coming very soon. The owner got him from Matt Blast and is an Iquitos. He is smoking! I cant wait to get him.:D
Re: Peruvian Boa Temperament
Peru boas can be nippy, and carry that on to adulthood. Honestly, a good deal of their "tude" relates to the care they are given, IMO. But there are some that are down right nasty (more or less). I have a few 5 year olds that are jerks in their cage, but okay when out. A 6 year old that keeps me on my toes 24/7.
.
But some of them are just softies. My eldest Peruvian is a gentle giant, lots of the midsized are fine too. And lots of babies that are easily hand-able.
.
Husbandry and lots patience pays off, more often then not.

Re: Peruvian Boa Temperament
i dont know about peruvians, but my older central americans are not anywhere near "trustworthy" to me. My baby nic and young hogg island are pretty good though, that nic is probably one of the nicest animals i own.
