    Can this be done?
Can a sterilite cart be converted into a snake rack with the addition of heat tape? has anyone done this?

    Hi,

Can you link to pics of what you are talking about?

If it's those little plastic multi-drawer units then the gernal feelings always see to be they are not escape proof.

Yeah thats exactly what I mean the little drawer things. I am not very handy but I want to expand my collection by 1 or 2 snakes and I was looking for a cheaper alternative to a purchased rack. If they are not escape proof then I guess It wouldnt work thanks for the reply. If you have any other thoughts let me know

If they are the ones I'm thinking of, they wouldn't work. When you open an upper drawer, the top of the lower is exposed completely, and the snake could get right out.

Thank you I didnt think of that but it makes sense that that would happen. Does anyone have any other ideas for a budget rack that would work well but keep my bp's contained and that I could use felxwatt with and would also provide every thing they need. I have them in tanks now but its to hard to keep the temps consistant even with a thermostat, and forget about humidity. I have made humid hides but I think they are too dense for the lamp to penetrate so its nowhere near warm enough insided the hide.

    Hi,

To be honest if you are handy at all then building your own is probably the best way.

The flexwatt and thermostat are by far most of the cost of the needed materials.

    Heh,

You may be right - I had to import mine from your side of the pond remember. It cost me a lot more than $2 a foot.

But yes those are the units - if the snake climbed up into the support from the tub above or half way out when the one above was open it could get trapped or hurt when you tried ot close or open the tubs.

those tubs are a bad idea, but if you're willing to live with some inconvenience, you might as well just get a bookshelf/dresser from goodwill or the like and put tubs on it with the lids still on them. Be sure to drill ventilation, of course. It's really quite easy to make your own rack, though...
