Substrate question

We're using Eco Earth Coconut Fiber as a substrate for our new BP. We DO NOT plan to move the snake to a separate container when feeding. Are there any concerns about ingesting this substrate when striking at his food? Should I switch to another substrate such as aspen considering I won't be using a separate container for feeding? We just got the snake today so if I'm going to make a change I'd like to do it ASAP so he can get settled in.

He will be fine even if he ingests a little bit. Impaction is extremely rare with ball pythons. I have had snakes eat mouthfuls of substrate and be perfectly fine.

You could lay down some paper towel over the coconut fiber before feeding if you would like. You don't really need to though.

coconut fiber is prob one of the easiest to digest if he even swallows that much don't worry haha!

Thanks, that's a relief to hear. I just need to thin it out some now as I have about 2-3" and I'd like to get it down to around 1/2" or so for heating reasons.
