Securing thermostat to tank

I cannot get the thermostat to secure to the bottom of the UTH; what is good to use/do?

We have the zoo med 500 thing that was recommended here.

You mean the probe? Aluminum tape.

yes, the probe. I was using duct tape, electrical tape (which I think I thought was aluminum tape) and glue gun.

Yeah aluminum tape is different. It is much more sticky.

It is also called foil tape and it is very sticky!

Since I move my thermostats around I use electrical tape. Never failed me yet ( knock on wood) if you use aluminum tape it may never be able to move.

Thats not true...You just need to work a little bit harder to get it off. Its not like your probe would be forever stuck to the flexwatt even if you used way more tape then needed.

Make sure that you are attaching the probe to the OUTSIDE of the tub as well. For two reasons -- 1: You don't want your snake getting stuck to the tape, and 2: If your snake pees on or moves the probe somehow, then your temps can get out of whack!

i asked about a good location for the probe & i thought i was told inside at the bottom in the middle.
i was gonna tape it there & cover it with repti bark...are the probes water/pee proof?
the repti bark covering it should keep it from getting wet, right?

That would be a perfect placement for a THERMOMETER probe, but not for a THERMOSTAT. The thermostat probe probably is waterproof, but if it gets wet with pee or if a water bowl is spilled, then the temps could get messed up.

For instance -- say the water bowl gets spilled with water that is about 75 degrees (the enclosures ambient temp). Well, now the thermostat is gonna kick in because it thinks it needs to get that UTH back up to 90. But since the UTH already is at 90 it's gonna bump that UTH up to 100-110 degrees.

You want to tape the probe directly on the UTH outside the enclosure, and then you can adjust the thermostat by monitoring the temps with the thermometer (which has the probe place inside the enclosure).
