Snake moving substrate, directly on glass

is this okay? we put paper towlels down, but she moved under them and is on the uth (well on glass above uth); there is a thermometer on it if that makes a difference.

This is why we keep the uth(and not the top of the substrate) at 90-94 degrees because they will go down to the bare glass if they need more heat! This is perfectly fine and will not harm the snake!

Do you have the UTH hooked up to a heat controlling device like a thermostat? (not a thermometer).

If not, then yes, it's too hot and could burn your snake very badly.

yeah, i have a thermostat (ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R) attached probe to uth on outisde of tank and a thermometer inside tank w/probe on glass over uth.

as long as the temps are correct you will have no problem. If its too hot then your gonna end up with a snake with belly burns.

As long as your thermometer reads below 95*, it is fine if the snake sits on the glass.

just ensure that you have the thermometer probe right on the glass to ensure the correct temps. You can attach it to the glass with a glue gun. If you have a temp gun sometimes it is hard to read directly on the glass...you would have to put a thin paper towel over it.


Also you need to have a thermostat controlling the UTH. Some places will tell you that you do not need it...YOU DO!! If not at anytime it can spike to over 100 degrees.
