"As a result of the new documents, the Humane Society of the United States sent a letter Monday to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder asking that the Justice Department initiate a criminal investigation.

"The industry insists they can't afford a penny per egg to (switch to cage-free systems) and yet that penny pales in comparison to the profits they've been reaping from this alleged scheme. It proves the egg industry doesn't care about consumers or animals," said Jennifer Fearing, chief economist for the animal welfare group."

perhaps we should start sending letter to eric holder asking for the hsus to be removed from the 502 status :D

Wait.. So the HSUS is trying to say someone else is doing exactly the same thing they have been doing for years just not with eggs and chicken? So in essence they just said that they are involved in a scheme which has reaped profits! They seem to think reverse psychology will save them lol

The factory farming of eggs is a disgusting practice. And relatiely speaking, the price point on eggs and meat has suffered far less from inflation rates than pretty much anything else (homes, clothes, vehicles) over the past 100 years... Not completely related to the article, but a side rant just the same.
