Escape poll

If you've had an escapee, what kind of enclosure did they escape from? I'm just curious. Escapes are my worst fear.

I forgot to put the lid back on, but she only went behind the tank. Small adrenaline rush...

It seems like glass tanks are far in the lead so far.

It would be nice to hear how the escape happened, smart snake, lid left open a crack, bin left pulled out a little bit etc. etc.:)

RBI 4 tub 28qt rack. I cleaned her tub when I got home VERY tired after work because she had gone to town after not pooping for a while.

I let the tub slightly open to let the water dry out, but I was so tired that I felt asleep. Woke up next morning and she had slide the tub open and she was gone. She still missing...

Seems to me like you first need to find out what percentage of each enclosure everyone is using. If one type of enclosure is used by the majority of people, then that type might have the most escapes. Or, if there are the least escapes by the enclosure used by the majority, then it would lead one to believe that is the best type to prevent escapes... Confused yet? :)

I have had one BP for seven years -- he escaped out of my custom enclosure the first day I had him (I left too much of a gap on the screen convering the top for the light fixture). I fixed the gap, and have not had an escape since.

I have been using a new custom enclosure for the last year, with zero escapes, and a 32 qt tub with lid for the last month with zero escapes.

Glass tank with lid. My fault but he didn't get far I was right there both times he did it. I was doing something thinking I could quickly leave the lid cracked.. NOT..
Both time they were recovered and now with the rack system I have had no escape at this time.

crap, didn't know the poll was multi-choice. i had a snake escape from a glass tank with a metal mesh lid. that, however was my boyfriends fault and it wouldn't have happened if he hadn't took the thermometer from Sage's cage and moved it to the incubator. he didn't press the lid back down firmly enough, so she was able to squeeze through.

my other "escape" happened with a 6quart bin with a lid, not in a rack. it was sitting on top of my dresser along with 3 or 4 other bins. however, i'm not 100% sure the snake actually escaped. i was going to feed the snakes, and noticed one of my less-than-yearling corns wasn't in his bin! however, it's possible he was hiding somewhere within the bin (toilet paper tube, substrate)and zipped away without me noticing. i find it hard to believe he was able to push up the lid. i ripped apart practically our ENTIRE room, unstuck the heat tape from the rack, rooted through both laundry baskets, pulled out all the drawers, basically looked everywhere for him. i got real lucky and found him zipping towards my bathroom. and MAN they are QUICK when they are running away! needless to say i'm still not sure weather or not he actually escaped, or i missed him in the first place, and THEN he escaped while i was stirring up everything in the room. those bins have heavy photo albums on them now, just in case!

Glass tank with sliding screen lid. I had one BP escape because my husband had an "airhead" moment - he was changing the water, ran out to check out why everybody was screaming at the basketball game on TV, sat down to watch it and didn't remember he never closed the lid until morning! We found her in the small crawlspace under the sink - we had to break the bottom part of the cabinet to get her out.

We had the hognose escape once because my son lost the lock to the cage and thought it will be fine for a few minutes while he goes hunting for the lock. By the time he found the lock, the hognose was gone! We found him 2 days later strolling through the kitchen floor. That was the scary one. We thought he was truly gone! He's such a little guy compared to the bp that he could go inside more spaces and be gone forever!

I'm thinking about it now and I'm wondering if the hognose has gotten so used to people that he's not scared to "walk through" the middle of the kitchen in broad daylight with all of us around anymore. Hmm...

By the way, these experiences led us to believe we are not good enough "parents" to own a giant.

First and only escapee was last year. She was 3 months, and I was really really tired when I went in to check on them all.
She was in a rack, and I left the bin open a little and didn't notice until the next morning. We found her 3 days later, she was fine.:)

If you secure all tanks, and don't do stupid/silly things (like I did) then no escapes should occur at all...but I believe a glass aquarium is the most common for escape.
