A funny story about BPs and constrictors
I just so wanted to share this story that happened earlier this afternoon.
We went to the park and met this 12-year-old-or-so kid and his dad and the kid said he just saw a black racer snake! And my sons said, "Oh cool"! And he said, "You like snakes?" And my sons said, "yeah!" And he said very proudly, "I have a pet cornsnake!" And my sons said, "AWESOME! We have 3 ball pythons and a hognose!"
So then his dad said to me, "he's only allowed that one cornsnake. I won't let him have any constrictors at all. They can be really dangerous."
I was so tempted to say, uhm, the cornsnake is a constrictor... but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
I'm just so glad the kid is a reptile enthusiast! :)

Great story!
It's incredibly sad how misinformed people are about snakes. And then when people like all of us here at BP.net try to educate them, they "know more" than we do. After all, their brother's uncle's cousin's sister twice and half removed has a neighbor that knows someone in Slovakia that died from a snake, and of course, all snakes are the same, and terribly deadly creatures.
It's great that kid you met at the park is into snakes. Maybe one day when he's older his parents will listen to him when he tells them the truth about snakes.

Good story:) Did you refer his dad and son to bp.net? You are right, it is difficult for all to know the truth about snakes, but education when you can is key........ty so much for sharing!
Re: A funny story about BPs and constrictors
I wonder if they have ever fed it!
Re: A funny story about BPs and constrictors
 I think when I hear anyone having any type of reptile I refer them here to the caresheets...or I just print them off. Working at the school it has been so cool to turn kids onto reptiles and teach them the real skinny.
Daily we have several kids ringing the door bell to our house. I believe we have become the local petting zoo.......someone suggested we start charging a fee. But honestly it has become my mission to teach children the true information in regards to reptiles. ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDD...it is working!! Suburbia is now a snake friendly environment here...lol....we did the Reptile expo for the school and turned over 400 kids onto reptiles....and that is not counting the other 800 at the school that I have done little "in class" things with. Even the teachers are starting to embrace it and learn the true information in regards to them.
We just had a first grade teacher rescue a leopard gecko that was in really bad shape. She sought me out to help....egads I don't really know much about them but used the caresheet sheet here....and referred her to this site...and our local reptile vet. Soon enough...we will have each class housing a reptile......not really but at least they will be properly taught about them.
