    UTH and Rack Systems
So, obviously it seems like a lot of people prefer rack systems and UTHs or heat tape. Does heat tape really work well? With tape or a UTH, how do you ensure proper temperature without burning your snake? I know that you need a thermostat, ideally, but how do you create a buffer so you don't end up with a burn?

The uth or tape does not come in contact with the snake directly. If you are using a thermostat to control temps then it will not get higher than the temp you set it at so the snake will never get burned!

I have seen a snake burn from a UTH. Could this only be because of a malfunction in the UTH? Someone I met had had a ball in a glass 20 long for years with a UTH and heat lamp and they pulled their snake out one day and noticed a burn on the belly. The snake was fine, but I don't want that happening to me.

He may have not been controlling the uth! Sometimes the uth or the thermostat fails and they do get burned! Just check up on them everyday and you may avoid this! I always have a dimmer on with the thermostat so if it does fail then it can only get as hot as the dimmer lets it so at least it will not be going full on!

Burns happen all the time from UTHs that aren't regulated by a thermostat.
