    Where to purchase PVC?
If you've seen my homemade rack post you see I constructed one built with 2x4 and plywood. Well... This thing weighs a ton and really isn't practical for the smaller apartment I am moving into this upcoming month.

Where can I purchase this lightweight PVC used for racks? Online or in person, I need to get my hands on it so I can build my new rack before 5/1. I was considering buying a rack from AP, but I would like to give building one myself a whirl as I did with the other one.

I can get melamine at a discounted price, but need a rack that will last for a lifetime or close to it.

    Thanks everyone

check you local plastic supply stores. some sign stores will sell it as well. you are looking for expanded PVC sheet just so you know what to ask for. you can buy it online precut but it will cost quite a bit to ship.

get a local phone book or the yellowpages online and search for plastic companys around your area or business that deal in plastics. Like 2kdime said shipping will suck

I've gotten a few quotes from local places, and places online.

Not only does shipping suck, but it's not cheap either. I think I found expanded PVC (5/8" thick) in a 4'x8' sheet for $170. When I sat down and started planning my cuts, I found that 4'x8' sheet didn't go as far as I'd hoped....even assuming no waste (and I'm probably not that good at cutting).

I used 10mm thick PVC for my rack. It's a hybrid rack of wood and PVC. The 10mm is thinner so cheaper, I got my 4x8 sheets for ~$100. And if you get it locally, have them cut it down for you, they should do it for free - mine did anyways.

Do a search for pvc sheet on thomasnet.com and it will bring up local suppliers.

    Where are you located??

I got 1/2 inch 4x8 sheet expanded pvc for $90, and they cut it. It built a 5 slot adult rack just without a piece to cover up the back so just get the undrilled peg board from lowers/walmart/homedepot for like 5 bucks
