how to keep temp up??

ok so some people have been telling me to get rid of my heat lamp because it messes up the humidty so what kind of bulb should i use to keep the temp high in the tank?

If you are using inaccurate thermometers, this might be giving you the impression that your tank is too cold. Make sure you have digital thermometers and at least one with a wired probe to measure the exact temperature of your UTH.

If you house temperature is around or above 75*, you shouldn't need anything other then a UTH regulated by a reptile thermostat (this is important to prevent burns to your snake).

If your house is on the cool side, you will need some kind of supplemental heat since UTH's don't heat the air around them, just the surface they are adhered to. Some people do this with red bulbs, moonlight bulbs, ceramic heat emitters, or another UTH if their house isn't frigid. The thing with lamps is they do make it very hard to keep your humidity up. If you can avoid lamps altogether, that is ideal.

Put some insulation on the back and sides. 1" foam will help. maybe cover some of the lid with insulation, too -- all along with the UTH.

Personally I have to have a heat lamp on all the time. I use a 100 watt black light bulb, it puts off very little light but a ton of heat. I've not seen any problems with it, but then I've had to mist the cage from the day I got my female ball medusa. the plastic holds the humidity well but with this dry desert air I live in it just has to be done.

One thing I would recommend, is to tape a thermometer probe infront of the bulb, the out side of my cage where my lamp is gets to about 97 degrees but before I started using the lamp I hung it 3 inches from a table and put a thermometer probe underneath it and the temp got to 106, I don't know when it gets hot enough to burn the snake on contact but I assumed thats to hot, I slowly started moving the lamp back until I new how far away was what I considered safe.
