Do you have digital Thermometers? A thermostat on the heating pad?

Also, you don't need the heating lamps, they're just going to suck your humidity right out. Dump those and stick with the heating pad. But the heating pad must be connected to a controlling device or it can cause a burn.

I am a new owner myself so my advice is limited.

One thing I could tell you is getting a dual probe thermostat and humidity gauge to test out both your hot and cold areas, is a crucial tool. It alone could tell you so much about how your living conditions are.

I learned my heat side hide was too hot and am now rectifying the issue. Never would have known otherwise.

    Good luck :D

Hook up the heating pad to a thermostat. Control it to stay around 90-95 degrees on the hot spot. Get rid of the UV bulb, you don't need it. Just leave the red bulb on all day.

Having 2 hides is a good thing, and aspen is a good bedding. I think a 2 foot snake in a 10 gallon tank might get too small very quick. Chances are you will need to upgrade to a bigger sized tank within a half of a year.

EDIT - If you have your snake in the tank right now with a heating pad, and the heating pad isnt plugged into a lamp dimmer or a thermostat, I reccommend highly that you either take the snake out of the tank or turn off the heating pad till you get one.. Especially if your using Aspen bedding, it's easy for a snake to move around aspen and he might get soem serious burns. Heating pads can get up to 140 degrees without a thermostat or dimmer.

No no, thermostat. Different than thermometer. A thermostat is used to control the heating pad. Here is a cheap thermostat that you can get. You could get the more expensive Ranco, but I wouldn't recommend it if you just have one snake.

Edit: What kind of heating pad do you have? An Under the Tank heater, or a human heating pad?

you need a thermostat hooked up to the heating pad. Not a thermometer. They are completely different devices. Your snake might get serious burns if he lays on top of the heating pad without a thermostat.

Unplug your heating pad for now and go pickup a lamp dimmer. They are $10.
