where should the feeder mice be kept?
im hearing that keeping mice/rats in the same room as the snakes will elicit a feeding response. i was planning on keeping my snake(when i get it) & the mouse/rat cage in my bedroom, away from my kids. will the snake always be hungry & looking for food if i do this?

I keep all my rats in the same room as my bp's.
And no the snake will not snake always be hungry.

As said above, keeping rats/mice in the same room as snakes will not cause the snakes to be in feeding/hunting mode all the time.

Feeder mice are best kept inside a snake's digestive tract. Keeps the smell down too I hear.

i would advise not to keep the mice in your room, the dust and dander over consistant periods is not good for your health.
i keep hundreds of mice/rats in the same room with my royals....not one problem ever......so don't listen to all what everyone says.
and when i change the bedding i wear a mask.........

I can relate to this, I was keeping my feeders in my room and although im sure theres other factors at play, as we also have cats, I would have severe coughing and sneezing fits at night. Had to double up on the good ol claratin. Now there kept in a separate warm closet in my house.

I have everything in my room as well, and they can be loud. Wheels, water bottles, breeding, babies, all of these things will keep you up, so keep that in mind as well. These guys are going in a warm corner of the basement asap. But to answer your question, it has no affect on my guys at all.

I'm going to play "devil's advocate" here. Keep in mind, I have never kept snakes & prey in the same room, only expressing an opinion. I would think that in the beginning it would promote a feeding response, just like pre-scenting your room (I am a big fan of pre-scenting). Then after a while seems to me the snakes would get used to the smell and it would lessen the feeding response when offered. There can be no way to pre-scent your room when the prey is always in there. I am glad people have had success doing this but I would be curious to see how many refusals they get. I feed approximately 100 snakes every week, I pre-scent my room for 20 minutes before offering and I normally get 95+% of my snakes eating. JMO :)

I keep my breeders and feeders in the same room as my snakes and out of 13 snakes in the room, only 2 are not eating on a regular basis, though they have fed fine in the past (regular feedings) with the rodents in the same room. Just my experience, not saying you should or should not keep them in the same room. I have no choice but to keep them in the same room because I live with roommates. If I had the space though, I would house the rodents in a separate room though. But only so I could have more space for reptiles. :D
