Re: Where to get amikacin?
I do believe it's specific to a type of bacteria, and requires a culture to test that.
Not to mention, you can only get it through a vet.. I don't think it's available over the counter. It's important to go to the vet anyway to make sure you get the right medicine depending on the bacteria.
Re: Where to get amikacin?
ok. thanks. but there are only a few exotic vets in our country so i would like to compare the doses you guys use. one time i brought my snake to the vet he injected amikacin without doing culture tests. is it always necessary to do culture test first?

You're in the Philippines and you're asking us? You might be able to get it from a local doc there....any doctor. Just tell him what you want and give him money. The problem is, it might not be the right medication for what's wrong with your snake.

You can get it from a chemical supply house in the US or in Europe. You should talk to someone who knows about it. You don't have to go to a vet. It is possible for someone to know more and not be a vet.

No it is not necessary. Amikacin is pretty broad spectrum. Ceftazidime is also good and they have a never one of that type also.
