    CA field herping time?
I'm thinking that tomorrow I might head out to a county park, Santa Teresa, and see if any critters are out and about. At least I can get in a little exercise, see some blooming wildflowers and get some fresh air.

If I don't go tomorrow, I'll wait until the weather warms back up again as tomorrow morning is slated to be cold. I'll be revewing my field guide again, and will head out with snake hook, camera, and hopes to find some neat critters! And this park is notorious for having rattlesnakes, at least when I was there several years back, and I don't think its changed much!

Anyone been out field herping in the past week or two - CA or otherwise?

I went to Santa Teresa Park today, found a gorgeous alligator lizard and a couple western fence lizards. Though they were all faster than I could get my camera on them. I could post pictures of the interesting scat I saw, but that doesn't seem to be right.

Hasn't anyone been out and about?

You want scat pix? :D Or I could post pix of the dilapidated barns I saw. Or the horrible pictures I got of the flowers...

I only caught glimpses of the blue bellies, they were fast and hide in the rocks where I couldn't get the camera. And I didn't have the camera out when I saw the alligator lizard. That's field herping!

That's why I like to bag what I find and stage my pics. I know not the same as a natural pic, but not as blurry either

Animal pics better than scat pix.
I'd like to see pics of a alligator lizard.

I found a salamander saturday under an old log. Pretty cool!
At least you had your camera with you and tried. I was cutting fire wood for next winter and just made sure I didn't disturb the salamander's home.
