Morphs on a Budget

IF (emphasis on IF) I eventually breed my 1.0 '09 Pastel, what would (hopefully) produce the most "bang for my buck"? I realize not many people would do a breed trade for a male pastel, and honestly I would rather keep everything under my own roof, so l would be buying the female.

Long story short, what is the best way to produce the most desirable morphs possible with my male pastel, without paying an arm and a leg for the female? Is it better to buy as a hatchling or to find a proven breeder or at least breeding weight? Just want to get everyones opinions of what you would do in this situation. Also, what are the average costs to breed a single clutch? Again, this would be down the road and only after tons of research and preparing myself for it properly. I wouldn't be breeding to try to turn a profit, but simply want to experience the wonders of what these morph breedings can produce.

i would say get a breedable size spider or another pastel.

That way you can go for super pastels or bumble bees

if you can afford the bumblebee i say that would give you a better return. you could produce pastels, super pastels, spiders, bees, and killer bees. if you cant afford it go with what jimbo4382 said.

what ever morph you do choose, make sure that you have a passion for it. be prepared to watch some if not all of the offspring grow up. there is no guaranty that they will sell however there is a guaranty that they will neeed to eat and be taken care of.

With out knowing your budget this questions is impossable to answer. But since your not planning to breed "For profit" then whatever you pick make sure you like the combo.. Me with a pastel male..I'd get some lesser or enchi or bee and stick to it the combo's scream and the base is afforadable..

I agree with all of the above post as well. Being a HUGE fan of the BEE's I went with a 1000 gram blonde pastel female, and a 1100 gram bumblebee female. The bumblebee will be going to my male pastel while the pastel female will go to my spider male.

I would say if you want to not wait then buy something that you can either grow up in time for the next breeding season or buy one already sized to breed. If you do not mind waiting the normal 3 years then I would buy a hatchling from someone from this season. It will be cheaper up front, but you will have to wait to breed her....

without knowing your budget we its to hard to give exact advice. Generally though I would get a subadult female and breed her next season. Hatchlings or juvinelles take to long, and for the best odds you need an extra year for her to get comfortable anyway.

Definitely under a thousand, preferably below 5, but I know this is hard....the lower price the better!

For 500 bucks you can get a "starter" kit type set up with a 10 gallon tank, uth, substrate..etc for around 100 to 125. That would leave you around 350 to 400 for the animal and some shipping if you needed it shipped.

You can price some stuff. Males are going to be cheaper than females...

I actually already have everything for another setup besides the tank...I would probably switch to a tub or rack system at that point
