    Dead snake??
We went to go feed the snakes and found our May '09 motley corn dead. He seemed ok. He just shedded last Thursday. It was a little ripped up which was weird for him but I figured he ripped it on his plants (not unusual for a corn). He didn't eat last week I didn't worry about it because it was the first time he's refused a meal in months. I'm so mad that I didn't realize something was wrong! Any ideas what it could have been? He died with his mouth open but there was no visible vomit or anything. He has a blue spot almost like a bruise midway down his belly. There was a little bit of blood inside his mouth but not on his bedding... He had to have died rececntly as he was still soft and limp. His cage temps are about 95 on the warm side, 80 on the cold side. Please help. Any suggestions would be great. I'm going to call my vet tomorow and find out how much a necropsy will be. I just need to know what went wrong and make sure the rest of the snakes don't have it. Sorry for the long post. I just can't believe this happened. He was one of my favorite corns.

92 is getting on the high side. 86 is as high as they ever need it.

Sometimes babies just die. The spot was his gall bladder and is common to see on babies.

Chances are it was just one of those things, especially if you have others you keep the same way that are fine. I would lower your high end heat though.

But I don't understand how an almost year old, seemingly healthy baby can just die. And why his mouth would be bloody.

If he truly was close to a year old then you may want to get a necropsy done to be sure.

at when i kept and bred corns i didnt give them a hot spot. they got the snake rooms temp of 82 and did VERY well.

Just some help keep corns at 72-75 cool side and 82-84 warm side. 90s was pushing it and could of caused some of your problems.

I'm planning to get a necropsy done. So that way if it was something I caused I can learn from my mistake. But we have 3 other corns who are all doing fine in the same room, with the same temps. I will lower it, but wouldn't they all be affected if that's what it was?

Not all are affected to the result of death. Over heated snakes cane have neurological damage that dont show right away. Max you ever want corn is 84

What kind of neurological damage? And I'm going to lower it in the morning.
