Cheap but effective thermostats and Rheostats.
So I am going to a reptile show this weekend. And I am trying to cover my bases incase I buy a snake that isn't an old world rat.

I'd like to say I won't but should I see something on my list at the right price I might be weak.

My top cage gets pretty warm, and I can put a heating pad on each side on top of the insulation. But dropping $150 on two new thermostats ain't in the budget.

Anyone have a better option? I can't really use lights.

Also suggestions on perching materials? I am thinking about using PVC and sanding it to give it texture but I am not sure how to turn raw materials into good sturdy perches.

I shy away from wood because of mold and bacteria it could have. My cages use plastic and clay pot hides that are easy to sanitize.
