breeding a female with more than one male

i've got a female who has locked up with 2 different males this season. i just assumed that the whole clutch would be fathered by one snake, whichever "got lucky" and impregnated her.

is this correct?

its possible that both males did the deed as females retain sperm for a while.

you can end up with babies from each male

What morphs were the males? That would be cool!

is this very common? i don't know why it didn't occur to me that a clutch could have multiple sires.

this year our first ball breeding is with a female albino. she is about 3 years old and hit the 1600gm mark last december or so. back on december 31st, our virgin spider male of 800g bred with her, but nothing ever came of it.

we paired them a couple more times, but he wasn't aggressive enough in trying to lock with her, and since she's a first-timer too, there weren't any more locks. about a month ago i paired her with our male proven-breeder pastel, and they've locked up 3 or 4 times.

i noticed that our male spider shed, so i tossed him in with the albino female, and lo and behold they locked up again, and stayed that way for at least 2 whole nights. he's having 3 or 4 days off right now, and after that we will put them back together.

it would be very cool if we got snakes from both males, but i'm not counting on it.

the males were Pastel, and Spider. PICS HERE

I bred pied, lesser, bumble bee and pewter males to a pied female. At least three of the males fathered this clutch...

Wow.. What Im wondering is this. You got 2 normals out of that clutch. The only single co-dom male was the lesser. The pied being a visual to a visual mother shouldnt produce any normals. SO would those 2 have come from the lesser? The others being double co doms should also not have produced normals. So would that mean those 2 must have come from the lesser father and that they are also possible het for pied?
No wait Im wrong. They would be het for pied.
What great odds on that clutch!

Heres hoping the OP gets babies from both fathers as well.

Well since the female is Albino, all of the hatchligns will be at least het Albino. So that'll be a cool clutch! Possibly Spider het Albinos, Pastel het Albinos, and Normal het Albinos. Good luck!

Both the Pewter (Pastel Cinnamon) and the Bee (Pastel Spider) could have produced a normal as well. So the normals (het Pied) could be from the Lesser, Bee, or Pewter. Also, the Pastel (Het Pied) could be from the Bee or the Pewter male.

It does happen from time to time. :gj:

I did a lot of mult. male breeding in 08 and got 5 split clutches. The standout was a Bumble Bee/Pewter x Pastel breeding that produced:

1.0 Normal
1.2 Bees
1.0 Super Pastel
and a Killer Bee and Sterling -- BOTH MALES!!! Never could figure the odds on the 2 boys. :D
