Need help with adult size TUBS
I'm trying to build a new rack for my 1400g female (who will likely get bigger). But need advice on choosing tub sizes...

I'm located in Vancouver and not every kind of tubs are available here. I found a bunch of 41qt rubbermaid tubs (28" x 18" x 6") which I am very happy with because the height is the same as my other rubbermaid tubs (hence all the tubs will fit on every level of the rack).

    Here's the catch:

I'm worrying that maybe the 28" length isn't quite enough, seeing how my BP test-fitted the tub today and about 1/4 of her body couldn't entirely stretched out. I want to use this tub as for breeding as well, so I don't know if it would become too crammed with 2 adult BPs in there.

My other option would be to use sterilite 61qt, which measures 34" x 18" x 7". But I hate the fact that these have wheels and they're slightly taller... which means I can't use my other tubs in this level of the rack for the future.

3rd option would be buying a breeding tub from a local breeder. The only thing I don't like about these is they're black. So, I can't check to see if they've locked without disturbing them. I'm pretty sure they're not the same height as my other tubs, so again... can't interchange

What do you guys think? Should I give up trying to make the rack versatile (can interchanging different size tubs)? or should I strictly build a breeder rack seperately?

I would go with the 41qt tub. Balls don't really need room to "stretch out". They tend to do very well in smaller more cramped enclosures. During breeding season, a male would only be in the females tub for a couple of days.

Everyone I know uses the 41qt tubs for big breeder females and 32qt tubs for adult males.

I actually talked to one of our local breeders about this the other day. She said that for her males she uses 32qt for her males (for life) when they get big enough and for the females she uses the 32qt untill they are around 1000 grams. Once they hit that size they get moved up to the 41 qt tubs.

    Thanks for the input!

Unfortunately I couldn't find any 32qt rubbermaid around here. So, I'm using 28qt (for my year old corn). I can see the sub adult BPs living in that no problem.

41qt sounds good enough for another year for the 1400g female, maybe I'll build a breeder rack, using different tubs when/if necessary.

    Thanks again!

I use the 41 qt too. It seems to work fine and I have a couple 2300+ girls in them.
