new snake loves to stay in the water ?
    Hi,

I just got new little friend (about 40 cm) today. It was send from another city and it tooks a day to transport that little :snake:

When I put on the cage, I feed him with a little mouse and he took that one. After that he going into the water and stayed there. after a few hour, I checked he was on the ground again .... and few hour later he was on the water again (it was 21.00 at night)... is it okay for him to stay on the water all the night ?

Should I remove the water from the cage ?
I have another balls, they stay out the water during night.

did you quarantine him? my first fear when I see normally healthy balls stay in their water bowls is mites. check for little black bugs on him.

Also, he may be getting ready to shed and your humidity is not high enough.

have check for the mites and found nothing. so I try to remove the water bowl for a moment ... and return it back in the morning so at night he wont sleep at the bowl ...

btw, should I put him on warm water ?

    Hi,

Sometimes they will sit in the water for the feeling of security - the water touches them on all sides like a nice, tight hide should.

They can also use it to relieve the pressure of a large meal. :)

It can take them a little while to adjust to their surroundings and trust that the hides are safe and not occupied by big scary monsters.

I generally just make sure the waterbowl is too small for them to fit in - as long as you get the humidity right they probably won't need to soak at any point anyway.

Just make sure he has a nice, dark tight hide on both ends of the temp range and he should be fine. :gj:

A good way to check for mites is to change substrate to plain white paper towels. If the snake has mites, they will appear as small black dots on the paper.
