hello from sunny California!

hi everybody! My name is Andre, and i've been terrified of snakes since I can remember, but i've always appreciated them for their beauty. So, guess what I did? I got one!:oops: He's name is Tom Malvolo Riddle, hatched 9/19/09. I'm keeping him in a 25q tub with holes poked. (humidity is +50%).

The tub is in a closet and the ambient temperature is 70-75 degrees at night. Will I still need another heat source for him to be more comfortable? The temp in the closet in the day time goes up to 85 degrees. I'm using pine bedding, a water dish,buti'm still debating in using a hide.

I have a 10g tank with a UTH, but I hate using it because its too big/heavy, and i read that most members here prefer using plastic tubs anyway (easy cleaning, humidity, etc etc.)

Pine is toxic to snakes. You should probably switch that.
Although the closet has heat......it is frankly a bad place to keep a reptile. The snake needs the option to go from hot to cold whenever it wants, not on the closets "natural" cycle. You want a hot spot for 90 or so and a cool side of 77 or so. But that needs to be constant. The problem with just putting in another heat source is that you don't want a hot spot of 90 and a cool side of 85 during the day, although it might work at night. What happens if you leave the door to the closet open? I hope the humidity is not much more than 50. I would guess you know that it should only really be above 50 if the snake is in shed. (Just checking, some people think that snakes should just be wet all the time because they must be from the jungle right?) As for the hide, it is what think is best for the snake.

Hello. Glad to see you could make it. We've been expecting you for some time now.

Get rid of the pine, aspen is a good choice. You can also use newspaper. You really should use an UTH. Also remember to use some type of controller to prevent the heat from going too high and cooking your snake.
