I have heard this but it is a total myth. I have and know of many other folks that breed mice and rats in the same area(not tub). The reason some may believe this is because mice wont breed in as extreme temps as rats do so while rats my be breeding fine if it gets too cold or hot for the mice may stop breeding. This has nothing to do with the rats. Its just that mice are so much smaller that their bodies dont adjust as well to extreme temps like rats can.

I keep my rats and mice in the same small room in adjoining racks and they all breed just fine, however I have noticed different peaks and valleys of production throughout the year like Raul described.

I did have one interesting thing happen to me for the first time ever quite recently. Some rats learned how to open their own tub and get out into the room, they then opened up a mouse tub and killed most of the mice in it. I had heard that rats will hunt mice, but I've never actually seen it happen before. In any case, the escaped rats filled up my Burms belly quite nicely.
