Rat scratched my girls eye :(

I had to switch both my balls into tubs because I wasn't able to keep the humidity high enough when they were in shed. My male started refusing the f/t rats because once I open the tub he's immediately trying to get out and he just isn't interested in a dead rat unless I wiggle it a LOT and make it seem alive. So I was forced to switch back to live rats. I generally feed two small rats instead of one huge prey item but the store was out of the smaller ones.

ANYWAY the point is that my female didn't take her time to aim she just struck it and wrapped quicker then I've ever seen. The rat really struggled a lot and was scratching her but not enough to cause marks on her scales. She ate it in like ten minutes but afterwards I noticed that she had been scratched in the eye! There was no blood or fluids and I haven't seen any infection develop. Her eye does seem like it's going into blue but only that eye. Her belly is slightly pink, so I think she's going to shed again...

Can I do anything to help the eye and make sure an infection DOESN'T develop? She's been acting completely normal and isn't jumpy around that eye.

Keep the tub clean and dry till she shed's they are very resilient..Just to calm your nerves here an eye wound that the girl recovered perfectly fine, kept the eye and never had any problems.

just watch it and over the next few sheds( she should do a few close together) and the eye will heal up fine I had one that had almsot the entire eye cape scape ripped ing half a few sheds and she was fine.

Wow, snakes are amazing! Look what they can do, they can heal themselves!

I am happy to hear that the snake will heal up, but I think you should seriously rethink your reasons for switching to live rats and consider getting them back on f/t.

One of those exo-terra cave she use to like to stuff herself in it and un-known to me there was a barb inside that she squeezed against it and it cut her eye even scratched behind her eye..

Yikes! I guess this is why we make sure there are no sharp bits in the enclosure :P

Glad she has recovered, that was a pretty nasty scratch!
