bad timing..Need advice/comfort/anxiety pills
SO...I have some eggs that are scheduled to be out in eleven days, and have been incubating fine. I had another clutch two days ago, and they were good. I checked the temps last night and it was all dandy (I got home from working at O.S.U. at about twelve thirty). I woke up at eight thirty and the temps read 93! I know that eggs that are getting ready to go generate heat, and adding a new batch can as well. I am just worried because I have never had the temps spike that drastically, and am especially worried for the newer eggs. I am just really bummed and don't know what to do. I adjusted the temps accordingly, and last year I had no problem at all with my setup and timing of the new/getting ready to pip eggs. Has anyone had high temp spikes and had eggs come out ok?

This late in incubation they'll be fine..I had a temp spike up to 97 last year for a whole day and all the eggs hatched just fine no worries..

Sheww! Thanks. I also just thought of another factor whilst taking out the trash. It has been rather cold in ohio, but for some reason it has heated up rather quickly and yesterday it reached above sixty out of nowhere.
Re: bad timing..Need advice/comfort/anxiety pills
Keep an eye on them just in case but yea I had eggs that were weeks out from hatching and they were just fine..I think prolonged high temps would kill them but a spike for a few hours.. I'd freak..but I think they'll be just fine..
Re: bad timing..Need advice/comfort/anxiety pills
Where are you getting the high temps, in the egg box or the incubator? If it is in the egg box hat are ready to hatch they'll be fine. If not... well keep an eye on the new eggs. Last year I had a few clutches and the ones that where near the date to hatch they get up to 99F but the others where incubating fine at 88.5.
Good Luck!!

Well, I hopeful on the brand new eggs (vpi axanthic X mojave). The reading was from inside the egg boxes; I have the temp readers with probes inside leading outside to read it, as well as another brand of temp/humidity gauges inside as well. Both read 93+-, and my temp gun read 92.

I hope your eggs are ok :)
I have a question related to this. I've been watching a lot of posts and websites on how to build and incubator, but none really say or show where to place the thermostat probe. It doesn't seem like anyone places the probe directly on the flex-watt or yes?
Thanks!
Re: bad timing..Need advice/comfort/anxiety pills
I let mine hang in the center of my incubator, just off the bottom of the middle shelf about an inch and one half. I don't know about taping it to the heat tape; I have never done it that way. I would think that you would have to set it higher on your t-stat to have the actual heat in your incubator at the correct temp, but that is just my guess as that is what happens with racks when you put the probe right on the tape. Maybe someone else who uses theirs that way can chime in. Thanks for your kind wishes!:snake:
