WOW, that's got to be one of the worst prolapse I've ever seen. Keep the tail wrapped in a wet towel and get the snake to a vet ASAP if not sooner.

    Good Luck!

    Oh the poor thing. :(

Hopefully he got it to the vet before it dried out too much. :please:

Would a course of antibiotics be a sensible precaution at this point?

Wow I agree with J....that is the worst case I have seen. You snake needs immed. vet attention. I am sure if you call them and tell them what has happened they will get you in right away.

Until you get her in.....keep her on very very moist...(wet) papertowels

This looks much worse than your average prolapse. Do you have any updated pics?

This was originally posted quite a few hours ago, so I hope this animal has seen a vet already, because that looks like a pretty bad prolapse.

If not, put it in sugar water immediately. This helps keep it moist, as well as reducing the size of the prolapse. In smaller prolapses, this can be enough for them to resolve themselves (at least based on what I have read, not personal experience).

For the person that asked, a prolapse is basically when part of the body protrudes out where it should not. In this case, the inside of the rectum (not sure that is the right word for snakes, but you get the idea) is sticking out through the anus, and would be called a rectal prolapse.

Another kind of prolapse is a uterine prolapse.
