Re: Herpstat II Questions
I was going to go with a II but going to get two Herpstats instead (One for Rack, one for Incubator)... But to answer your questions, I do believe it does come with two probes.
My Thermostat backup is just a little crappy Repti-Temp 500R... Although it is not connected to anything. If it so happens that my Herpstat fails, I will just hook up my Rept-Temp real low until a new Herpstat comes in the mail. (Only took about 3 business days for my Herpstat to arrive - and I live in Canada.)
The Herpstat I have was really straight forward and the instructions were easy to follow. Also, Dion has exceptional customer service so if you ever have a problem or question, he is quick to help. :)
Re: Herpstat II Questions
Great! That was sort of what I had planned to do, have a cheapie on hand just in case and keep it a little lower to be safe.
Is Dion from ColdBloodedCages? So far that is the only place I've seen them for sale although I should probably do a search. I just saw someone on here post about them so that was where I checked. Thanks for the input!

...just noticed. You are "Nicole" too. Good name. ;)
Re: Herpstat II Questions
Yup, Herpstat II comes with two probes that let you independently control two different heating elements. I have the Herpstat Pro which has 4 probes. It's GREAT!!!

Does the Herpstat II come with two seperate probes? ( I didn't see anything mentioned in the description, although they mention sensors so I'm assuming these are the same things?)
Do you need a backup thermostat if you are using the Herpstat II and if so, what do you use? (I do realize that all thermostats can fail). Looking for cheapest "bandaid" only if the Herpstat should fail until we could either fix it or replace it. If you don't use a back up please let me know that too.
Also, is it user friendly? Any complaints before I drop over $200 on this? Thanks so much!
Herpstat II = great investment.yes two seperate probes at 700 watts each, like having two thermostats.
back up thermo is not needed IMO,this model has a audible lo and hi alarm to let you know if it's not at the right temp, also it's designed to shut down in the unlikely event of a malfunction.
it's as user friendly as thermos get,i only use and recommend these thermostats.have fun!

Re: Herpstat II Questions
Thanks Everyone! Makes me feel a whole lot better! I will go check out the website now.
BlueAppleHerps, I WISH I could get the pro, but trying to justify it to my husband is another story! For now I'll have to be satisfied with the II. :)

Well, you won't be disappointed with the Herpstat II. I only went with the Pro because when I was looking to upgrade it allowed me to take care of all of my heating needs: bp adult rack, bp hatchling rack, corn rack, and bp incubator.
