How many days do I put him in, how many do I take him out..
I've kind of debated with myself over this, since I'm getting ready to breed soon, I need to know this.
How many days would I put the male in for, then how many do I take him out for? Then, do I feed him right when he's back in his own tub, or wait a day then feed? I wanna know your methods of doing this. And for how many weeks should I be putting him in and out and repeating the process?
And being the clumsy person I am, I always forget the recommended weight for a male to be breeding at.. is it 600g or 800g? My largest male is about 472g I think, if I can remember (there goes the clumsiness..) and I just weighed him an hour ago or so. My female is 1172g, which is pretty damn exciting.

I would still wait a little bit on the female for sure. Try to get her another 200g up if you can.
The males I would say 700g is fine, but they are a whole lot less particular about that.

Yeah I'm definitely waiting for the female to get up a couple hundred grams or so, and trying to get the male to get up quickly as well.

I've heard of males breeding at as little as 400 grams and only a year old. As for the females, the bigger the better but 1200 is the smallest I'd want to breed her. But I would say for the most part, 1500 grams is a great weight to start breeding a female. I've got a 1200 gram female, that I may breed late this year or just wait another year. She's probably got the weight but I'd like to see her one year older.

The male is probably ready, we had a Male Triple Het Caramel Glow G-Stripe breed at 4 1/2 months old and 318 grams. I would wait a little longer on the female. :gj:

My Yb was at 350g when he was first breeding. If the male is ready he will lock, if not he will just 'cuddle.' I have an 1100g Het Axanthic male that still wont lock, so sometimes weight makes no difference.
As for the female, weight is a necessity because of all the energy it takes to develop those eggs.

3 days in, 4 days out.
Males depends, but I don't like to try them unless they are around 600 grams, and females not until 1200 grams or more (I try to opt for more, but depends on the females age)

We flip the males every other day. They get the weekend off for feeding. I have found males that are under nine months old and under 500 grams cuddle and don't get the job done. We will move male into a females cage if she is over 1100 grams in October because if she is still eating she should go. With it being March I just don't think she will go this time of year.
Feed her and him you have a real good chance of getting eggs this time next year.

Re: How many days do I put him in, how many do I take him out..
I usually do 3 days in, 3 days out. Sometimes I will forget to put a male in and the girls will go 4-5 days without having a date, and on occasion I'll forget to take the male out or they will be in an extremely long lock and the male will stay in for 4 days. I don't really stick to a strict schedule, but next year I plan to really record every introduction and when I take the males out, record locks, etc.
As far as weight, I bred a male last season who was 550g. He got the job done even though the clutch ended up dying off. My minimum weight for males is 500g.
