Farewell Ball

I was wondering how common is it for ball pythons to die when they are kept under the proper conditions. I have invested in many balls and it would shake my world if one of them past. It is also interesting to see what others have experienced. Please post if the ball past as a new arrival and what the breeder did to attempt to compensate you if the bp was a new arrival within a week or two. Names being mentioned is not necessary but might be helpful.

Ive had one BP die within our care.
It was due to poor husbandry due to the prior owner.
She had mites, RI, Scale rot, Mouth Rot, and numerous wounds.
We only had her for about a week...

i voted no, but my experience is limited as i have few animals relatively speaking and they seem to be very healthy.

I did not vote, none of the anwsers fit what happened. I rescued five ball pythons and only three made it, but the previous owner had them in horrible abusive conditions.

Ps. All of my breeder bought ball pythons have had zero problems, but remember, things can always pop up unexpectedly.

In this case, respond as though they were new arrivals.

It would be interesting to see if there is a pattern with sick balls and their source. A breeder who has sold a ball that has wiped out a persons collections has possibly sold many sick balls that may be connected. THis information would be useful to know.

I only own one ball python but i dont think a ball should wipe out some1s collection. Think thats why most people quarantine them

Most people do not quarantine as much as they should, or at all.

I have had multiple corn snake deaths. No ball python or boa deaths.

I had one die on me. It was sent to me in horrible condition. I imediately got in contact with the "breeder"(I've got other names for that peice of s___). You could actually see the snakes ribs. I've never seen another ball python in that bad of shape.
The seller told me I could send the snake back for a refund. I told them that I felt that I was the snake's only hope/chance to survive. It lasted a couple of weeks and finally passed.

Yes and I made some mistakes in husbandry was my vote. back in the day befoer highspeed was consider public. I had a pair I adopted the one out ( not heard from them in a long time) and kept the other I had had both for about 2 years with no problems.then one day just up and died. I think not it might of been cause I had kept it in the wrong set up a cedar built cage ( my grandfather had built with scarp wood at the time and a open cage front( wire mesh) and I kept the snake on pine shaving. this was even befoer I had a pc that was internet capable.( around the time 486 dx33 were coming out in school)

I had put it death off to being lonely at the tiem sincei had gotten rid of it cage mate.back then I had 4 snakes the 2 bps both rescued from some guy that was moving after his place caught fire didn't even care the snakes were still alive when I was helping him pack up some unburnt items for him to move and I seen the snakes moving. I asked him what abotu them and he just shrugged and said to take them if i wanted them. no ideal of their age or caree I was keeping them like I did my black rat and the corn since i didn't know better at the time. Man since then it make me feel liek I was a moron of a 15 year old. The funny thing was ther was never a RI or signs of it. just a snake that would eat and prefered to lay on my lap when i took it out nowI know why cause I was warm. The following summer I got access to reptile books ( local libary had stuff and allowed me to look and read any of the text docs they had access too.) man I spent more time ther than I did in the woods that year.
