How long does it take for a rack to heat up?
I turned this one on yesterday. set the thermastat at 110.
(The cage on top has its own thermastat)
the rack is heated with 3" flexwatt.
this morning the tubs (all levels) are showingg 88.
room temp is 80.
sooo...whats up?
thank you

Are you sure your room doesnt dip down at night?
Are you running a strong fan in the room?

no fan going in the room.
This room is heated by an electrical heater besides the central heat.
Re: How long does it take for a rack to heat up?
Bill,
I would still do some more looking into that. I have all of my Helix's set at 95, and most of my tub hot spots are 91-92 degrees. My concern with the t-stat sending a signal for 110, would be a malfunction, and the tape melting tubs (I have seen this before). Are you using 6 watt or 10 watt Flexwatt? Also, where is your probe located, and how is it attached? You should not need the t-stat set over 100 degrees ever in my opinion, and with an 80 degree ambient, it shouldn't be that hard to heat a tub.

The probe is located in the middle of the heat tape and attched with aluminum tape. Also the tape is held to the rack and covered with the aluminum tape. it is recessed 1/16" in the rack.
I just lowered the t-stat to 100
Re: How long does it take for a rack to heat up?
how are you measuring the temp in the tub? Sometimes using a heat gun doesn't work since the tub is a bit reflective.

acurate thermometer with a probe on the hot spot
