Ball's love to hide, I only see mine when they are hungry, so it's more abnormal for him to be moving around, you just got him so he’s getting used to his new environment. Let him be for a week or so only going in the cage to change the water and he will settle down.

Also make sure to check the care sheets on here so all his needs are being met(Temp,Humidity etc) Balls are easy to care for but much different than corns, kings, etc

For the first few days a new snake will wander the enclosure and get used to the new home. Normally after a week you can start handling since you gave it a week to get used to its new home. Some people wait a few days to handle it, but it's better off for the snake to be handled after a week of being in the new environment. At night, Ball pythons, and every other nocturnal snake, will wander the enclosure. They are out and about mostly at night, but if they wander a lot during the day then they could be hungry or something in the husbandry is not right.

Yeah, it's normal. Thats where he feels most comfortable. My male is in his hide a lot, even at night. Now my newest female comes out of her hide and roams around more than the male. And welcome to the wonderful world of balls! My wife is not a fan of snakes, but she doesn't mind my BP's.
