fine vermiculite or course???

last year i used a more course vermiculite but this year i bought a 2.5 cubic foot bag of vermiculite and its alot more fine, it seems to hold humidity better than the course but has ne one used it and not had any issues?

Short answer, I have never used it. However, I know some people that have, and the reason I don't use it, is the same reason I add Perlite to my mix. Airflow. The fine stuff seems to pack together too much, and you don't get enough airflow under the eggs. I am not saying it won't work, but I would watch your eggs closely, and add some Perlite, or switch Vermiculite if you start seeing problems.

I have used both with great results. However, I prefer coarse over fine vermiculite as it seems to make less dust when mixing it. Other than that, I haven't noticed much of a difference.

i went ahead and cut out milk crate to act as a "light diffuser" and raise the eggs off the substrate. should work hopefully but thanks for the info

i used the fine stuff this year and im on day 36 right now and no problems so far but im going to use the white defusser on my next clutch for air flow reasons
