Is my BP a rule breaker?
    Hello everyone.

In my very short experience in owning a BP I've come to realize that either mine is an exception to the rule or I'm not sure what is going on.

    Rules Broken...

    1. My snake is active about 8-10 hours a night. While he wasn't like this when he first arrived but over the past 2-3 weeks, (he go here about 5 weeks ago) he is active from dark until morning light. I know most of you have said, a hiding BP is a happy one... well my guy seems fine out exploring.

    2. Even with handling 4-5 times a week, he is still feeding on schedule which suggests to me that this guy seems to feel pretty secure.

So what do you all think, is this normal, or do I just have an exception?

In my experience, if a BP is out and active more often then not, it's because it isn't happy with it's hides.

If your husbandry is spot on .... your fine ....

Sounds like normal behavior for a BP to me.......

As far as I can tell, my temps/humidity is fine

    Ambient- 78-80
    Warm- 87-90
Humidity 55-60 (bit high but is that an issue)?

All BPs are different. As long as he's not roaming during the day I wouldn't worry.

4-5 Times a week isn't excessive, and as long as you're not throwing them around shouldn't stress them out very much. Others on here handle theirs every single day with no issues.

Post up when he starts telling you he loves you. Then we'll talk. Till then, sounds like pretty average BP behaviour to this observer. :)

    Will do Satan.

I only posted this as from many posts here on BP.net have suggested that he should be acting otherwise with some people stating that he'd be hiding 90% of the time and that handling more than 1-2-3 times a week is excessive. But Elise, he does hide all day so that's all good.

how old is he? What is his weight? How much and how often are you feeding him?

my snakes are usually in their hides at night because they are digesting. When they are hungry, I will see them out more often at night. But right after a meal, nada.

As long as he is still feeding ok I wouldnt worry about anything. Just ignore all the questions about how old is he? how much does he weigh? how much are you feeding him..It is all immaterial as long as he is still eating :D

If the snake is being under-fed then yes, it matters. If an adult ball python is being fed pinky mice then obviously not everything is fine because the snake is eating.
