can anyone explain r.i. and i.b.d.
hey im wondering if there are any ways that i can tell if my snakes have any problems or not. they dont really act strange but to the unknown eye it might be tricking me. any examples would be helpful thanks..
Re: can anyone explain r.i. and i.b.d.
RI is a respiratory infection. To spot these, you'll usually hear popping or wheezing sounds coming from the snakes mouth, or you'll see mucus dripping from the snakes mouth or bubbles blowing from it's nostrils. These need to be treated with medication and can only be received from a vet.
IBD is inclusion body disease. There is no cure for this, and the animal (if it's a python) will likely die within a few months. It's extremely contagious so quarantining any new animals is extremely important. Signs of IBD include paralysis, rolling or uncontrolled sparatic movements and spinning. Boa Constrictors are usually asymptomatic (don't show the symptoms) and can live with IBD for years, but still transfer it to pythons.
Hope that helps. :gj:

Here is a vid on how to check their mouths
YouTube - How to check for a Resperetory Infection.
You can also search for snakes with IBD and see a few vids of what it looks like. Some are hard to watch...
