The probe should be inbetween the glass and the uth. The digital gauge is alot more acurate than the dial ones! I noticed my temps were off too when I got my digital. That is why evryone here recommends them! Go with want the digital says!

im scared to say that the dials were wrong cause she has been so healthy with the dial at the temp i wanted is that a bad thing the dials are spread out the hot says 98, the middle says 87, and the cold says 79, the humidity says 70% so i have the probe just hanging to the bottom i dont have a uth i have lights if i have to i will get the uth but i have to put the new one in a different room hopefully i can get everything close or ima have to do something else. so when i turn the accurite on its automatically right and thats the temps without having to modify? i was hopeing i didnt do something. do i check the outside or inside temp. seeing that its all inside the tank and they say different things?

I'm not as impressed with the Acu-rites after my little experiment.

Put 2 of them in the same cage. The unit on one side, the probes on the other.

The probes read within 1 degree of each other. The units however, were about 4.5 degrees off.

Oh well, what can you expect for 12 bucks? I do like the one that's wedge shaped over the ones that are slimline, but I can find the slim ones all over the place but not the fat ones. Bleh.
