Re: pam in rat enclosures?
every time i've asked for information about mites, it's always been very vague. however, i *believe* that rodent mites are different than snake mites, and one can't infest the other.
Re: pam in rat enclosures?
i thought that snakes get mites from the rodents bringing them in... maybe im mistaken.

You are mistaken. :)
Re: pam in rat enclosures?
ty for combining my threads. i accidently posted only in the rat forum when i realized i should have had it here.
but still would it be worth my while to spray down the rat rack with PAM?
Re: pam in rat enclosures?
Reptile mites and rodent mites are different.
Re: pam in rat enclosures?
I hope you do get an answer to your question. Acknowledging that they are two different kinds of mites, has anyone used PAM on the rodent kind?
Re: pam in rat enclosures?
I wouldn't, since pam is formulated for snakes it might make them sick. And since rodent mites and reptile mites are completely different it might be useless.
Then again bugs are bugs, I use bird protector canisters for my rat rack. It's essentially a flea/mite/lice collar in a hocky puck sized canister. You hang or set it on the cage and it repels/kills bugs before they can lay eggs and start an infestation. Like putting a flea collar on a cat but easier.

edit: I've never had an infestation, but one lady I got some rats from had cat fleas which were all over her rats till she hung one of these.
I also rescued a batch of rats with lice recently and haven't seen any nits or itching, course I also treated with lice shampoo and extra cleaning.

i used to use those bird-protector things, but 8-in-1 hasn't been able to cross the US to Canada border for about 4 or 5 months.
