Is this girl a pastel? What do you think?
This is a yearling female that I purchased at an expo as a normal het for albino. The more I look at her, though, the more I think she might actually be a pastel (and hopefully still het for albino)... with all the bright yellow along her sides and her pale brown eyes. Take a look at these pictures and tell me what you think. Is she a pastel?

Nope, not a pastel. Many het albino's are bright yellow in coloration.
Re: Is this girl a pastel? What do you think?
Not a pastel, sorry! But she's still beautiful.
The dead giveaway is the belly, I've never seen a Pastel without a spotless belly. Other then that she is just not the shade of yellow you usually see in Pastels.
Re: Is this girl a pastel? What do you think?
Pastels also have green eyes...

So, can you look at her and be pretty confident that she really is het for albino? Does the albino gene also influence her lighter eye color?

being het albino has nothing to do with the coloring. many normals are bright yellow in coloration also, it means nothing.
also you cannot tell a het just by looking at it, not one single morph. If you could tell by looking at it, it would be a co-dom morph not recessive
the only 2 things that can be said are some het pieds are ringers and that has been found to not be 100% reliable at all. and some het hypos have a different look to them when comparing them to clutch mates. but again its not 100% reliable.
your snake is not a pastel, they tend to have clear bellys and the dead give away is it doesn't have green eyes.
If you bought her as a het albino your trusting the breeder and everyone else who owned the snake. all you can do.
Re: Is this girl a pastel? What do you think?
There is no saying that she is het for anything without genetic proof. The only way to be sure is to breed her. :gj:

No, I can't look at her and be confident she's het albino. You said that you purchased her as such, and many het albinos do tend to be lighter in color, which could explain her lighter color. Some of my normals have light eye color as well.
Re: Is this girl a pastel? What do you think?
It is a normal for sure, not even close to a Pastel.
As for the coloring not having anything to do with being a Het, I have to disagree with that. I have heard people say that Het Hypo Mojaves have a certain look to them, when compared to normal Mojaves. I have heard some people say that certain Hets may look different than normals for other simple recessives. My own experience with this happened this year. I produced several Ember Balls, with one being neon in color compared to the others. They all are Possible Het Hypos, so, is this neon colored one THE het out of the group? Not sure, but I do not think I would discount the fact that some Hets might exhibit a slight color varience when compared to normal siblings.

agree with that...
for example, a pastel or spider that is het orange ghost, will often show the gene
