A line, for example the V.P.I. axanthic is named for the first person to breed it out.
There isn't really a way to make a line. It happens. Well unless you have a bigger knowledge of genetics than anyone I know personally and are charting genomes on ball pythons.

You can, decide to breed specimens of a morph that look especially different than the other morphs like it. More crisp, brighter, darker for example. But it has to be a difference that sticks around (is genetic)

That's as close as I can come to giving you an answer

I believe it is when you import the original animal directly from Africa it becomes your "line".....

IMO, if your talking about having your name associated with the animals, I believe that is done by the community or your peers..:salute:

First, you get on the list from the importers to get sent pictures of new mutations that are found in Africa. Then you get into a bidding contest with other large scaled breeders, bidding tens of thousands of dollars for the right to get that animal. Then you import it, acclimate it, and hope that it breeds, then hope that it's genetic. Then it's your line of XXX morph.

Or...you hit the ball python lottery like Justin Kobylka, you raise up a CH female, have a "feeling" about her and the markers that you see, and you breed her pastel son back to her, and you produce pastel pied, thus having your own line of pieds.
