ball python a few questions
hey im new to this site and with the reptile expo coming up 2 weeks im getting a ball python but im still not 100% sure on the cage size/how to get humidity because every website says something different and any tips on how to pick out a good ball python? :P

Re: ball python a few questions
No need to apoligize; and good for you for doing research before you buy! Make sure you do tons of it over the next two weeks, a Ball Python is a 25+ year commitment!

The BP.net caresheets are a great place to start, so maybe start there and then come back and post additional questions in this thread... It just saves others lots of time going over the basics :)

Re: ball python a few questions
im setting up the cage prior to getting the snake to make sure the temps are good before hand i was wondering which is better coconut eco earth or cypress mulch and why?
Re: ball python a few questions
I don't use either of those for my BP's, so I can't give you a full answer. I use ecoearth for my Kingsnake and my Sudan Plated, and it's pretty good. Holds moisture well and won't mold. Will have to watch that it doesn't get TOO wet though.
Most people on here will recommend either aspen chips or newspaper/paper towels. I use Carefresh and I love it. There's lots of options!

As far as loose substrate goes, I prefer aspen or cypress mulch to eco earth. Eco earth is basically dirt, which is a pain when it comes to cleaning day.
Re: ball python a few questions
i was using aspen for months and when cleaning day came it made such a mess that i decided to go over to newspaper. my girl really enjoyed her aspen, she would move it around just the way she liked. good job on doing ur research first
Re: ball python a few questions
If you decide on cypress make sure it is 100% cypress someone stated on here that they are finding a mix in there cypress ....which is not good!! ;)
Congrats and welcome to the addiction!! I have to say this is the best site and you will learn so so much here.
