A little bit of odd behavior

Before I get going, yes, I do have my three males in the same tank at the moment due to some unfortunate accidents with their original cages (a rogue guitar and a malfunctioning uth :rolleyes:). None of them are stressed, none have ever refused a meal, and there are more than six places for them to hide in, and hopefully in within the next month I'll have either a rack or a few stackable snake cages, so it's temporary.

Aaaaanyways, last night I went to take my normal ball, Simon, out of his tank. My Spider, Noah, was sticking his head out of one of their hides. He turned his head to watch me, and as soon as I picked up Simon, Noah shot out of the hide, across the tank, and up the side. I put my hand out and he climbed right on, curled up and just hung out for quite some time. I have never seen any of my BPs move that fast, not even for a meal, hahaha. Now, I don't want to say "Ohhhh, he wanted me to hold him, how cute!" but it really was like he wanted to come out of the tank. I don't think he was just trying to get out though, the way he climbed in my hand and curled up immediately was just odd. So? Do you think he was jealous I've been holding Simon and not him? ;)

Jealous? No.

Stressed that he's in a small enclosure with two other males? Most likely.

The jealous bit was sarcasm. As for stressed, it was not stressed behavior. He's been with the other two for about three months now, and has never exhibited any stressed behavior. If he had just climed out and tried to escape I would maybe then attribute it to stressed, but once he got on my hand he stopped trying to get anywhere. It was just a little strange.

The fact that he zoomed out of the enclosure as soon as he saw it was open to me is a sign of stress.

You really should try and get them in their own setups as soon as possible. You could order 3 feet of flexwatt online and get a few Rubbermaid tubs and make some temporary housing.

I am a big...."oh my snake has a LOT of personality" and I swear to god.....I have one that is totally jealous...and one that loves my husband and wants to "off" me.


HOWEVER....I would think due to the nature of how he went about it....he is stressed. He could be getting picked on when you are not around??? Who knows. I would try to check into some other options in the meantime. I have seen ppl use a tub with a lock on it and a UTH hooked to a thermostat.

He didn't zoom out as soon as he saw it was open, he came out as soon as he saw I picked up Simon. I changed their water just before, so the lid had been open for at least five minutes, so it doesn't seem like stressed or escapist behavior. I know it could very well be a sign of stress, but it was completely at odds with any behavior he's exhibited in the past. He's also eating like a garbage disposal at the moment, which also convinces me it's not stress related. They will be in separate housing as soon as possible; I'm either picking up a rack system at the Tinley show this weekend, or building one next week with my father.

As for the behavior, if the lid was open for a while he was probably just checking out what was going on. When I open up a tub and wake a snake up, they usually slither out.

Yeah, it was just a little bit of unusual behavior for him I thought I'd share :)

I've been keeping up on the thread for it, but I don't know which day I'm able to go yet or the times, BUT I'M SO EXCITED. Last October was my first one, I can't believe I'd never realized it was there before. I'll pm you my number, but if you call I might not get it, it's definitely time for a new phone, but I still get texts fine if that's good with you :) I'd love to meet some of you! :D
