I'm curious if anyone has any experience or knowledge about crossing the Canada/US border with your pet WITHOUT the intention of selling it?

I'm trying to plan forward to spending my future winters down south, ie: Florida. I realize we need CITES permits to import certain species and I'm curious what permit we can get to travel with our pets. This may sound crazy but just as I would bring my dog, I would bring my monitor or tegu (whichever I finally get).

I don't know much about that stuff, but, I'm almost sure that it will still have to pass all the exams and such. Might I suggest that you make the right choice to abide by the laws though. The last thing the industry needs right now is somebody trying to "smuggle" something. I'm not saying you will smuggle anything but you know how the news makes things out to be. Good luck on the trip and taking your animals with you. Please keep us informed on how you go about the process.

Absolutely, I only want them to be able to kiss my paperwork!!!

Since 9-11, my identity was a match for a wanted fellon and it's been nothing but misery and attitude. I've been pulled in at least 100 times, pulled off planes, detained, you name it. My friends didn't even want me in the car crossing the border since they got the same treatment being with a 'person of interest'. Funny - they never appologise after the fact though. I finally got things straightened out but it took time and $$$, and almost NO cooperation from anyone in US customs. Trust me, don't give these guys any reasons to hassle you, they LIVE for it!!!
