    100% het pied X 50% het pied??????
Ok, I have a pair of 100% het for pied but I have an opportunity to buy some 50% females that are babies $125....Not sure if it would be a good buy.
What are the stats to get a pied breeding 100% Het X 50%?

    Well,

there is a 50% chance that it IS het pied, and there is a 50% chance that it IS NOT het pied (meaning, just a normal type)

IF it is in fact a het pied, then it would be like breeding Het Pied to Het Pied. You would have the probability of getting 25% pieds, and the rest would be possible hets.

If you hatch out what appear to be all normals, then you would have 50% possible hets and 50% possible normal type...because you can't tell which ones are het and which ones are normal.

    Nate said it very well.

$125 for 50% het pied females is too high IMO. You can get a hatchling that is 100% het for $250 these days. Unless they have VERY strong het markers I wouldn't pay more for them than I would a plain jane normal.

Nate explained it well. I also agree with Matthew that the price is too high.

Usually getting phets is a good buy, because you buy several of them for the price of one guaranteed het. It is a numbers game, but on average you'll come out ahead. However, if the price is too high, then it makes more sense to just buy a guaranteed het.

I would not buy phet pieds unless I was getting the entire clutch (at least all the females), because of the marker issue. If someone has already selected the one with the best marker, then it reduces the chances that you'll come out ahead on that numbers game.

I also wouldn't buy hets or phets unless it was a very reputable dealer.

The only I will ever buy hets are 100%. I dont think its worth the time raising them up and ending with a normal. P het pieds should be cheap anyways. A pair of 100% hets is what $400 or $250 for a female

Does a het physically look different from a normal?

    No.

Het pied markers are an indicator - and some people swear by them - but I don't believe they are consistent enough to be a sure way to tell that it is or isn't a het pied.

My thought about possible hets is this: the seller could very well know they're just normals and know that when your prove them to be just that there's nothing to be done about it, you know? And why waste your time and money, anyway? Unless you get a pied, you'd have no idea if the babies you produced were even hets.
