    Requesting Boa Info Please
Before I say anything, Boas are "the" snakes that made me fall in love with snakes in the first place, but I have hold out in getting one until I find the right one for me and other issues.

First question is color. It seems to me that Boas go through a color change with age, or is it just different colors of the same sub-species? For example, I'm realy interested in Surinames. I realy like the gray-ish looking color of them, but that seems to be a "youth" (I keep reading "neaonate" Im guessing thats a young boa) color? If I'm right, what is the final color of a Suriname boa?

Example Here, first top left picture, I realy like those colors.
    http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/boas_suriname.htm

Second is size. Is a male Suriname a Boa that I will always Be able to handle by my self alone? If not what are other options of similar color?

Third is temperament. Are they a easy Boa to deal with?

Also Please! Could anyone post pictures of their Surinames and their Ages?

    Thanks!

I would stay bci if you are wanting to be able to handle by yourself from now on... Bci (like columbians) stay smaller,Bcc (like surinames) tend to get quite large, over 10 feet. In my oppenion Columbians are quite beautiful all of tgheir lives

My absolute favorite boas are BCCs. They are absolutely the most beautiful of the boas, they are just out of this world!!

Peruvians are probably my favorite, but sometimes it's a tossup between a spectacular Peruvian and a spectacular Suriname.

They do get bigger, however for me that is part of the appeal as well. A male will get big, but I would never consider it a snake that you couldn't handle by yourself. Big females can be VERY impressive in size, and a good part of that is that they are just a heavy bodied snake as well. If you don't want a 60+lb snake, just get a male. It will get big, but that's part of the fun! They are certainly a manageable size.

As with all snakes, there are a range of temperments, and some snakes will just be snappy their entire life. There are plenty (I'd say most, but I haven't personally met "most") of BCCs and BCIs that are kitten-tame. They do have a fairly strong feeding response, so that is something to always watch out for.

P.S. I believe BP.net's very own JimiSnakes of www.jimisnakes.com has a pair of adult Surinames, but his website does not list any babies for sale. He would be a great guy to talk to because he knows just about everything there is to know about boas.

Check out his website for a pic of one of his adults

I dont mind if they are big, But ofcourse I dont want something that I cant handle by my self, or would be a danger by my self. I seem to like more BCCs as well. But still, most of my questions are still standing :P Thanks though.

I don't have a suriname boa but I do have a male Guyana who is also a BCC.

Babies tend to be more gray but they usually brown out as they age. But if you get a good quality snake it won't be just brown. It will have pinks and purples.

You should have no trouble handling a male by yourself.

I had a BCI a few years ago who was satan in scales. The BCC that I have now is a total sweetheart and everything I read told me the opposite. That BCC were evil and BCI were angels. Temperment really depends on the snake.

If you're on the fence about getting a BCC, do it! They are so pretty. That's why there are no BCC morphs. Because you can't improve perfection. :P

I do want a BCC, I'm having trouble deciding which though. How old is your male? do you have any recent pictures of him?

    Thanks.

Yes you can handle one by yourself, provideing your not 2'6" tall..lol..
The color gray is normal for youngsters in many of the sub species..
If this is the color your after you may want to look at the peruvian animals
which many a times will be colored as such..The peruvian BC longicaudia is a essentually a bicolored animal of black and gray and carries a wicked appearence..The other 2 peruvians are generally advertised as locale animals Pacaupa and Iquitos the grayer of the two..Which you can find here from some of the members..
