Craigslist add

I just ran acrost this add and wanted to see what everyone thinks about it....I know if it is what he says it is he wouldnt be asking sutch a low price.....What do you think...Morph Ball Python Male DBL het Lav and Pied (richmond / point / annex)

I am looking for a new home for this 09 male 100% Het for Pied and Lavender Albino. You don't see this combination every day. He eats well and has a great personality. He also has the genetic markers for both traits and more pics can be provided along with a guarantee on his genes. He is a slight ringer which is common in het pieds... Asking $300.00 re-homing fee.

I would want to know where he purchased it (if it was a reliable breeder such as Bob Clark and had picture id, I would consider it). If he says he produced it himself, I would probably pass it on. There are no reliable het markers for the hets mentioned...(last I knew) either Lavenders or Pieds (I wish there were!)

i wasn't aware of any markers for LA's.. and the ones for pieds arent 100% either. If a deal is generally too good to be true, it is. if you want a double het dream get one from a reputable breeder. You could end up with a 300 dollar normal male off CL. :/

Ask to see pictures of the parents? Or the parents themselves?

Id ask for where he came from, but he definitely has some strong pied markers. Although theyre not 100%, some people swear by them and from what I understand, most het pieds that have the markers tend to prove out. If he can guarantee the genetics through paperwork or through pics of the parents ( Visual Pied X Visual Lav) and you feel comfortable after getting all the information, you might be getting a deal of a lifetime.

just be sure to watch the pics you get, even if you get pics of a vsual pied x visual LA he could just grab two pictures off line or something. 300 just seems way to low.. somethin smells funny. However, like everyone else said, if there are physical documents or it came from a true breeder that is BIG time like bob clark or BHB or Southerland or something then maybe, but if it his self produced i wouldn't risk blowin your three hundo on a normal

I would e-mail him and ask him a load of questions to cover your rear end. I once found a proven het pied for $300 on craigslist. I e-mailed the guy asking how much she weighed, has she ever had mites, RI's, did you prove her out, can I see a picture of a clutch she produced, etc... He never replied. So I have to believe it was a scam.

For me, the deal breaker would be papers on the genetics.

yes i would agree to be very leary of CL ads! not that it couldn't happen, but definately only make a purchase on a het if proper documentation is provided! I've seen some wild stuff up there such as het for lemon pastel!!! :rolleyes: And another time i found a good deal on something and flat out asked why it was so cheap and the response was "we just can't get the mites to go away" so i'm sure they got some unsuspecting customer real well on that purchase!! I have found some good deals but i've also insited on going over to there house to pick up so i can not only inspect the snakes but the living conditions as well!!

It looks like he has the het pied marker, so it may be what he is claiming. Het simple recessive males are not worth very much, which is why the price is so low. I know some breeders who sale het males as normals to get rid of them.
