    Am I Alone Here??
Does anyone else have a beast of a time resisting interaction with a new "baby" for the first week? My spider's just hanging out in his hide kind of looking at me and every time I look down I just wanna pick him up! :P

I know better and I am going to contain myself, but it is difficult!

when I got my first snake, it was very, very hard. But now that I have 5 it is very easy to leave them alone for a week and just handle the other ones :P

Resist the temptation! It will reward you later on.

I'm ashamed, I caved! But I removed my dog from the room, turned off the tv and just let him sit in my hand until he started flicking his tongue and moving around on his own. Only held him for about 5 minutes and put him back in his hide so as to avoid too much stress.

Wondering if I should see if he'll eat. he poo'd last night and just came out of shed before I got him so I'd think he might be hungry. My pastel ate only 5 hours after I had her home. he has been hangin out for almost 30 hours now.

You are more likely to have a sucessful feeding if you wait a week

    I caved in. :(

But I only held him for about 5 minutes. he was very exploratory and had his tongue going the whole time. But from now on, I'm resisting! :please:

I'm sure he'll be fine. My newest is in his first shed since I got him. He had some horrible retained head shed when I bought him so I've been checking on him a couple times a day. Very briefly, I'll pick him up for a minute. One time I put him down and he whistled and I freaked but I think it's some retained shed in one of his nostrils that I'm hoping will come off this shed. Already dabbed his eyes with a drop of mineral oil.

But I do understand your temptation. I have 5 snakes and 3 of them are currently in shed, means I can only handle 2 of them. :(

Ok.....Im a total hypocrite. I have broken down and held mine prior to the week off as well. I suck ....I know.....I tell others not too but I have. At least I am fessing up. :please:

I can also say that we were so worried about the new baby being so small...we did offer her a meal 3 days after moving in with us. She took it so no harm no foul.

One thing that I do NOT skimp on is waiting 48 hours after they eat. I am a total stickler on that one.

I know what you mean, there's a couple of spots on Casper where he's got stuck shed. he's got a little scale still right next to his vent but he has already proven it's not an issue. I'm only worried about the spot that's on the side of his head just a little behind his eye. but it shouldn't be a problem to remove after a soak once he's settled in.
