Small BCC?
As I still live with my parents, i cannot get any bigger snakes. I would really like to get a Red tail but my parents say balls only. I think i can persuade them for a 5-6 foot snake at the most but i dont like how nics and hoggs look like. Are there any boas that look like the BCC but are smaller?
thanks

Re: Small BCC?
Go with a BCI. Im new to boas, but BCI's tend to stay smaller. I just got an albino male and he shouldnt exceed the 5-6 foot mark. But then i got an argentine who could possibly reach 8 to 9, but its not likely.

Re: Small BCC?
The smallest BCI I can think of is the peruvian boa. My bosses is short(5-6feet) full grown but very girthy, very strong. Not a slender snake, makes 5 feet look huge! I mean a 5 foot ball python versus a 5 foot boa is a big difference. This guy must weigh close to 10-15 pounds, you might think it's nothing, but it's surprising. Good luck, hope this helps! ~Caylan.S.~

Re: Small BCC?
Help, I am brand new to the Boa world and need to understand all these descriptions/names - what exactly does BCI stand for??
Thanks

Mabey I put this wrong: I dont really like the looks of the BCI but love the looks of the Surinam and Guyana but cant get snakes that big. Are there any smaller ones that look like BCC?

Ummm, Peruvians are among the LARGEST of the BCC boas and can get anywhere from 9-12 ft at their biggest.
If you want a smaller boa, you don't want a BCC. BCI are the most common boa on the market and typically stay right around 5-6ft. Sabogae and Hogg Island BCI are a little smaller, staying around 4-5 ft. All of the Island BCI (Corn Island boas, Caulker Cay boas, etc) typically stay small, around 4, maybe 5ft.
A little lesson: all "red tails" belong to the genus Boa, species constrictor... but then you have the sub species imperator, constrictor, occidentalis, sabogae etc. When I say BCI, I mean Boa constrictor imperator which are your common redtails. Boa constrictor constrictor are more commonly called the True Red tails (they usually have very bold, bright tails, and typically get larger). Boa constrictor occidentalis are Argentine boas... and so on.
