Which thermostat?

Re: Which thermostat?
ok, i'm still new with all this really. but, i believe that they both work the same, and your preference is really all that matters with those two particular thermostats. unless i'm mistaken, a proportional thermostat such as a helix or herpstat would be a better investment.
so, it's really up to you. they both cost the same and work the same. i've heard good things about both, but have never personally used either.

Re: Which thermostat?
herp stat is number one but i run the johnson on my rack and have had no problems. i also have a herpstat for the incubator.

Re: Which thermostat?
they are both pretty much the same but the johnson has the option for a nite-drop at an extra fee...
that being said... i own a ranco.

Re: Which thermostat?
If you're paying that much anyhow, you might as well plunk down the extra 30 bucks and get a Herpstat proportional. If money's an issue, then Big Apple Herp's BAH 1000 is only $40 for an on/off thermostat with all the bells and whistles, and just as reliable.

Depends on what your going to be running with it.
Rack? Cage?
Oil filled heater for your room?

Of all the problems I have heard about thermostats, the BAH-1000 seems to be one that fails most often or doesn't get hot or cool enough.

Re: Which thermostat?
I've bought a few rancos that I've just wired myself, they're only like 60 that way.

Re: Which thermostat?
I have an older used Ranco, just like the one you have an option of using.
It works very well and I check the temp with temp guns a lot, always spot on!:gj:
