(pics) "planted" BP enclosure
I woke up today and decided it was time to overhaul the ball enclosure. It has been a long time since they've had any bedding in their cages so I figured I'd go that route again. I was getting bored of just looking at newspaper and I've never had any mite/bug problems. I used a mixture of 75% Eco-earth and 25% cypress mulch at the recommendation of a local, reputable reptile shop. I bought a piece of sod (also ok'ed by the reptile shop), cut it in two, and "planted" them in plastic kitty litter trays. I also bought a potted plant for each cage (can't recall the name of it but they are big thick plants that won't be easily crushed). There is no substrate inside their hides so they have nothing blocking their heaters; just the linoleum that lines the inside of the enclosures.
Adalae didn't want to touch the dirt at first - typical female
Raven seemed to really enjoy the grass. He spent a lot of time there.
I hope to also get some natural tree branches and bolt them to the side of the enclosures for climbing. It will look like the branches are growing out of the walls when I finish it, but I figured I would wait a bit and see how they do with this. So far, Raven seems to LOVE it. Adalae is still deciding.

And a recent photo of Raven and I. This is the snake that fit in the palm of my hand when I rescued him (at 6 years of age). Please don't look at me, just look at the snake -

Nice! I used planted terrariums for years and they can work great :gj:
Re: (pics) "planted" BP enclosure
I've just remembered we now have a nice spiffy "caging" forum. I've been away for a while and forgotten. Mods, if it's not too much trouble, would you mind moving my thread? That way I won't take away from actual husbandry questions.

Thanks, Judd! I haven't been around in eons; how are you? I've moved my scrawny self over to facebook (mostly) now. Do you have one?
