Hide question

I have a quick question.

I have hides for my snake, she sits in them all day and comes out at night. My question is, would it be bad if I took them out and just let her hide in the jungle I made for her? I dont like how she sits in the hide all day and I enjoy looking at her, even if shes just curled up.

Shes eating regularly, 2 years old+, I tried it for a day and picked her up. She doesnt seem scared or uneasy... I just dont know what to do. Im torn between my own personal enjoyment and her well being.

Then you might want to consider a new hobby. Not being able to decide between what you want and whats best for your pet is a key sign that you might have your priority's mixed up..

Proved whats best for her..if you want an animal that doesn't need loads of hiding space there are snakes to suit that too..

BP's feel comfortable and secure in their hides...thats why they go in them in the first place. They are definitely not window pets. If thats what you're looking for, you've got the wrong idea. I've always heard a hidden snake is a happy snake.

I was always told if you can't find your snake in it's enclosure, then it's a happy and content snake. It's when they're out climbing the glass and sniffing around the top and looking for ways out that you should worry. I check my snakes all the time and if I don't see them, then I am content that they are happy. When i see them out and not going in their hides, I investigate further to find out what might be going on. More times than not I find the huimidity or temp off just a bit to make my pet restlesss, hence him or her showing their faces.

Bottom line is, hides are essential to a Ball Python's security and all around general health and well being. By removing their hides, you are taking away a vital part of their everyday environment and their health will suffer.
If you're looking fro a pet you can view all day, goldfish are cheap and you can watch them float to your heart's content. ;)

Didnt need a father son talk, just wanted to see the negatives of keeping it without a hide. Thanks for the help. She is in the hide now so no worries.

Not eating
Stressed which can cuase the snake to bite or strike defensively.

I totally get what you mean...:rolleyes: But that is their security and since balls can be picky eaters...you don't want to stress them. Also stress can make them sick too. Just bring them out to play with them. We bring our out everday unless it is within 48 hours of eating or they are in shed.

I have to agree with every1 above. Stick with the hide and when you want to see your bp take it out of the cage. No hide equals stress and we all know how bad it is to have a stressed bp.

If you have it in a tank I'd keep the hide but if you have a rack you'd be fine without a hide.

ive tried this and it doesnt always work that way. It will work for some and not work for others. But i always prefer to offer a hide.
